I am a graduate student at the University of Kentucky planning to complete a Masters in Vocational Education in May 1998. I hold a B.S. in Horticulture from the University of Kentucky. Presently, I teach Vocational Horticulture at Blackburn Correctional Complex, a minimum security facility, in Lexington, Kentucky.
This web page is the result of a Special Problems Course in Horticulture directed by Dr. Bob Anderson. As a horticulturist, I have been concerned that a number of tobacco growers who have purchased greenhouses and left them empty or non-productive for 9 months out of the year. I believe that these houses and the associated outdoor float beds could be used to grow fresh produce during the rest of the year. This would allow farmers to diversify their crop production and increase their income at the same time.
